Since 1987

Built slowly, worn for decades.

Ironbark Hide Company began as a two-man repair counter on Tanner Row, Chicago. The founders believed a shoe should be bought once and resoled forever — so they started making the shoes they wished they could repair.

Nearly forty years later, every pair is still cut, lasted and Goodyear-welted under one roof. More than two hundred operations pass through fourteen pairs of hands before a shoe earns the Ironbark stamp inside its waist.

Cobbler crafting a shoe by hand in the workshop

Our craft

From hide to heel, under one roof.

Hides are graded by hand under north light; only the tight-grained bends become uppers. Clicking, closing, lasting, welting — a stitched sole, never a glued one, so your shoes can be rebuilt instead of replaced.

Visit on any Friday and watch a pair take shape, from clicking knife to first coat of cream.
